Everton have confirmed that Andre Gomes has a dislocated fracture and will undergo surgery on Monday.

Andre Gomes, an Everton midfielder, suffered a displaced fracture in his right ankle during Sunday’s match against Tottenham Hotspur and will have surgery on Monday.

In the second half of the 1-1 draw at Goodison Park, the Portuguese midfielder was pulled down by Heung-min Son and landed awkwardly before colliding with Serge Aurier.

Spurs player Son was awarded a red card after the severity of his injuries became clear, after referee Martin Atkinson had only showed him a yellow card.

Gomes was swiftly treated by the team’s medical personnel and transferred to the hospital on a stretcher for an injury that will almost definitely end his season.

Everton stated in a statement on Sunday night that ‘Andre Gomes will undergo surgery tomorrow (Monday, November 4) after sustaining an ankle injury in today’s encounter against Tottenham Hotspur.

‘During the second half of the game, the Portugal international was stretchered off the field and taken by ambulance to Aintree Hospital, followed by members of the Everton medical staff.

‘Following hospital testing, it was determined that he had sustained a fracture dislocation to his right ankle. In due course, the club will give additional updates.’

Despite receiving a red card for ‘endangering the safety’ of Gomes, Son was consoled by Everton players following the game, with no one blaming him for the injury.

We must be fair to Son. Son has my undivided attention. Every time I look at him and Andre, I think of high-level football players.’ Everton manager Marco Silva spoke to beIN SPORTS.

‘There are also high-level characters. Even though I don’t know Son personally, he’s a really excellent player, and I don’t believe he did it maliciously. No, it was a tackle at the time, but it was not done maliciously. He definitely does not want that.

‘He’s very upset in the dressing room right now because a football player like Son does not want to do that, and I’m 100% sure he doesn’t want to do something with that intention.’
