CAMPBELL JOINS EVERTON
Megan Campbell, a Republic of Ireland international, has joined Everton.
The 30-year-old defender joins the Blues with extensive Women’s Super League experience, having previously played for Manchester City and Liverpool.
Campbell, who can play as a centre-half or left-back, adds to Brian Sorensen’s squad ahead of their league opener against Brighton & Hove Albion at Walton Hall Park on Sunday (1pm kick-off BST).
“I’m delighted to be here,” Campbell said to evertonfc.com. “Coming into the WSL with a new team is a new challenge for me, and I’m looking forward to it.” I’m hoping to thrive in the blue of Everton, and I’m convinced the squad will have a fantastic season.
“The squad did very well under Brian’s leadership last season, proving they can go places.” This season could be another step in that direction.
I want to come in, have fun, and hopefully help the team in any way I can. I am an experienced player. I’ve played in the WSL and against great internationals, so I want to help my teammates and make an impression wherever I can.”
“We are delighted to welcome Megan to the Club,” Sorensen remarked of his latest addition. She is an experienced player who has represented Ireland both domestically and internationally.
“We wanted to add some experience to our group heading into the new season, and Megan checks every box in that department.”
“We are pleased to have Megan at Everton and I look forward to working with her this season.”

‘considerably more serious’: The 28-year-old Everton player will now be absent for considerably longer than planned.
Andre Gomes’ injury may be far more serious than Everton has indicated.
According to injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar, Sean Dyche may have exaggerated Gomes’ ‘calf tightness’.
Following his return from a loan spell with Lille, the midfielder’s future at Everton appeared to be in doubt.
Gomes, the highest-paid player at Goodison Park, was extensively linked with a move to Turkey but chose to stay in Merseyside.
Dyche was yet to reintroduce Gomes into the first team setup, and he hasn’t played for the Toffees since May 2022, however it now appears like he will have to wait much longer.
Dyche recently claimed that Gomes’ absence was due to calf discomfort, but Brar claims differently.
Dr Rajpal Brar told Goodison News: “Based on not playing this season, unless it’s purely a managerial decision, it does sound more like an overt injury than just calf tightness.”
“Calf injuries are also notorious for being extremely sensitive and prone to re-injury.”
“The other consideration is ‘calf’ can refer to the entire calf complex which also includes structures like the Achilles which is far more grave.”
Will Andre Gomes make an appearance for Everton this season?
If Andre Gomes had been fit, he would have started Everton’s Carabao Cup match against Aston Villa tonight, with Dyche allegedly anxious to welcome him back into the group.
The 30-year-old has previously been frozen out of the squad, but it would be foolish to continue paying him large amounts while failing to capitalize on his skill.
Everton have few options in midfield after Alex Iwobi moved to Fulham, so Gomes will be anxious to get back to full fitness so he can force his way back into the picture.
