Medical underway: Leeds United man to seal temporary exit that ends three-year stay – Phil Hay

Leeds United centre-back Robin Koch is currently undergoing a medical with Eintracht Frankfurt as he nears a loan deal with the Bundesliga club.

As Daniel Farke gets to grips with his first batch of senior players this week in pre-season training at Thorp Arch, there are some that won’t be part of the plans.

The club need to trim the wage bill by allowing certain senior players to leave the club, and the defence is close to a major overhaul.

Robin Koch to Frankfurt?

The Athletic’s Phil Hay has now revealed that Robin Koch is closing in on a loan exit to Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt.

Koch has one year left on his contract, and a loan exit essentially puts an end to his three-year stay at Elland Road, having joined in 2020 for around £12million.

A medical is underway for the German to return to the division Leeds bought him from after sealing promotion to the Premier League.

Why are Leeds loaning him?

Leeds won’t be getting a fee for Koch when he leaves the club permanently in a year’s time, but Hay outlines that the club are happy to let him go on loan purely on the wage side of things.

Koch leaving helps Leeds trim their wage bill for the start of their Championship stint, as will other major senior exits this month and in August.

koch leaving won’t have many fans losing sleep, because he was a core part of the worst defence in the Premier League two seasons in a row.

There is a talented defender there, but when the going gets tough, he was nowhere to be found, and we need players with much stronger mentality than that.

He will be back in his comfort zone in Germany and Frankfurt is a good place for him to play, so expect him to pick up some form.
