Former Aston Villa and Chelsea captain ‘on the verge’ of a two-year contract extension Aston Villa
The latest comes as a former Aston Villa and Chelsea captain nears a shock coaching move to Saudi Arabia, where he will work alongside Steven Gerrard.
Former Aston Villa and Chelsea captain John Terry is said to be close to taking over as manager of Saudi Pro League club Al-Shabab FC.
The England icon is presently working as a consultant in the Chelsea academy, but the Blues have stated that they would not stand in his way.
Terry was Villa’s captain for one season before becoming Dean Smith’s assistant at Villa Park and Bodymoor Heath for three years.
The 43-year-old later became a coach at Chelsea before joining Smith at Leicester City early in 2023. When it didn’t work out, he returned to Stamford Bridge.
Terry has reportedly been “approached by bosses at Al-Shabab around a month ago” and has been given a contract, according to The Sun.
A two-year contract is thought to be on the table for Terry, with another two potentially possible depending on how the iconic former defender performs.
According to reports, chiefs in Saudi Arabia believe Terry has the coaching credentials and reputation to attract even more star names to the division. Terry will soon face off against former teammate Steven Gerrard, who is the manager of Al-Ettifaq.

Following what Unai Emery said at Aston Villa, Diego Carlos’ injury prediction has emerged.
We’re thrilled to welcome Aston Villa podcaster Ty Bracey as our exclusive Aston Villa columnist; each week, he’ll share his thoughts on the club’s most pressing issues…
According to Ty Bracey, Diego Carlos’ injury during Aston Villa’s trip to Liverpool is not cause for alarm following his long-term absence.
Carlos had to make his way off the pitch on Sunday (3 September) in the 19th minute at Anfield in yet another injury setback for the Brazilian, but Unai Emery was quick to note that his fresh injury is not as severe as the Achilles tendon rupture that kept him out the Villa squad for 213 days. Villa have looked quite weak defensively when facing the Premier League’s top opposition and have shipped five goals to Newcastle and three to Liverpool in their opening four games, so Carlos’ absence will be a significant blow if he is sidelined beyond the international break.
Tyrone Mings is out for the rest of the season, as is midfielder Emi Buendia, and the club has had a string of injuries this season. Despite his troubling injury history, Ty Bracey has expressed concerns about Carlos’ fitness, claiming that this new setback has not “disheartened” him and that he should be back much sooner than expected.
Bracey told Villa News exclusively, “I think it’s just a little niggle to be fair.” I don’t believe it’s as serious as his previous injuries.
“Emery said it was a minor muscle injury, so it wasn’t anything serious.” It’s fine as long as we recover from it. I’m not discouraged or worried about it.
