£2.9m Spurs and Wolves legend offers West Brom transfer signing an unexpected escape route
The summer transfer market for English clubs has closed, but one former West Brom player might be on the move.

Former West Brom midfielder Romaine Sawyers is drawing interest from Maccabi Tel Aviv of the Israeli Premier League.

Cardiff City, the Baggies’ Championship opponents, put Sawyers available for transfer earlier in the transfer window.

The 31-year-old failed to get a move to an English team, but he may now have the opportunity to play abroad for the first time in his career. He’d been linked.

with a transfer to Rotherham United, but the move did not pan out, and he is now looking for his third club in 18 months.

According to TransferMarkt, Tel-Aviv is interested in Sawyers. Robbie Keane, a former Aston Villa, Wolves, and Tottenham Hotspur striker, is the club’s manager.

Tel Aviv is one of Israel’s largest clubs and is currently in the group stages of the UEFA Europa Conference League. Keane has yet to call on any British players to accompany him to Israel, although Sawyers might front his transfer business with the window open until September 20, 2023.

Erol Bulut, Sawyers’ current club manager, told WalesOnline in August: “If he does not get minutes here at the age of 31, it would be best if he looks at another club to leave, to play at least another four or five years as he is planning to play to at least 35/36.”

“He has contacted his agent.” I believe he is attempting. He’ll find something because he’s a good, if not exceptional, player.”

In terms of Sawyers’ participation with West Brom, he was a rumoured £2.2 million acquisition for the club in 2019. He appeared in 64 games for them after joining from Brentford for a second time, scoring once and assisting once.
