Chris Sutton has significant reservations about the £30 million Everton player.

Chris Sutton revealed yesterday that he has serious worries about Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

Sutton stated on the BBC’s Monday Night Club that Pickford had not persuaded him.

Pickford was unnerving for Sutton’s defense, according to Sutton, who preferred a calmer presence in goal.

“He always has a trick in him, Jordan Pickford,” Sutton added. There is also a sense that something unexpected will occur.

“He’s quite active. I usually like a goalkeeper who is calmer and more sober.

“He’s a box office draw and a great shot stopper, but I’m not convinced that’s what you need.”

“You need to stay calm and just do your job; you don’t want goalkeepers tearing up their boxes.” “I’m not certain about him.”

And, while some may agree with Sutton’s views, the timing of them is perplexing.

Pickford, according to Sutton, is an intimidating presence in his Everton defense.
Jordan Pickford was brilliant against Sheffield United last weekend in their 2-2 draw, arguably producing the season’s first double-save.

To blame £30 million Pickford for his terrible own-goal seems excessive.

Pickford now heads to England as the country’s number one goalkeeper, and he doesn’t appear to be threatened by Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale.

And this is primarily due to his consistency under Gareth Southgate.

TBR opinion: While there is some justification to labeling Pickford’s technique as unpredictable, Sutton’s remarks appear rather harsh on the Everton man.

Pickford is a team leader who can be inspirational on occasion.

Pickford’s form has improved significantly in the previous year or two, and he appears to have increased his concentration.

And, given that Sutton’s comments came after Pickford’s performance against Sheffield United, they appear unjust.

Sean Dyche will no doubt be very happy with his Everton number one, and surely neither Pickford or his manager will be given too much thought to comments like Sutton’s.

‘I believe he will be,’ Everton given early boost ahead of Arsenal encounter Arsenal are expected to be without a crucial player against Goodison Park.

Mikel Arteta has revealed that Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey will be out for ‘weeks,’ meaning he will miss the team’s trip to Everton.

Partey was not present for Arsenal’s 3-1 win over Manchester United last weekend. Arsenal have made a strong start to the season, having accrued 10 points from their opening four matches as they once again aim to challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title.

With the campaign on pause for the international break, the London outfit return to action on Sunday 17 September when they make the trip to Everton. However, Partey will be unavailable at Goodison Park after sustaining a groin injury. The Ghana international was a key player for the Gunners last term, making a total of 40 appearances and scoring three goals.

Following Arsenal’s victory over Manchester United, head coach Arteta stated, “It doesn’t look good.” I believe he will be out for several weeks. “I believe it’s a groin issue rather than a hamstring issue, but it could be something in between.”

Arsenal will also be without summer acquisition Jurrien Timber against Everton. The centre-back is out for the foreseeable future due to an ACL injury.

Meanwhile, Sean Dyche will be hopeful that Everton can reintroduce many players over the international break. Dominic Calvert-Lewin was declared ‘touch and go’ to play in the 2-2 draw at Sheffield United due to a facial injury.

The Toffees will also be hopeful that Jack Harrison, who has been out with a hip injury since joining on loan from Leeds United, will be available. After suffering ankle ligament damage, Dwight McNeil made his first appearance of the season off the bench at Sheffield United and will have the opportunity to come back up to speed.
