Nottingham Forest were interested in signing Kasper Schmeichel in the summer, but he has since agreed to join Anderlecht. Instead, during the transfer window, the Reds signed Matt Turner and Odysseas Vlachodimos.
The seasoned stopper is already on his way to Belgium, according to the Daily Mail. After leaving Nice on a free transfer, he will sign a one-year contract.
The Reds would have completed the signing of a wonderful player had they landed the Premier League winner. He has bags of experience in the top division and his leadership qualities would have been evident.
Schmeichel spent 11 years with Leicester. He led the team to their Premier League title win, played in the Champions League and also lifted the FA Cup with the Foxes.
It was a surprise when he went for Nice in the summer of 2022. He has 479 appearances for the East Midlands club before moving to Ligue 1 for a fresh start.
He will now travel to Anderlecht to try to improve their fortunes. They’ve already been eliminated from Europe this season, and things haven’t gone well.
Brendan Rodgers lavished admiration on Schmeichel throughout his time at Leicester. He referred to him as ‘excellent’ and ‘absolutely outstanding’ when he was in charge of him.
Forest target Schmeichel set for Anderlecht
Although Schmeichel is now 36-years-old, he still has a lot to offer and he will likely become a real leader of the Anderlecht team.
