Malik Mothersille bids Chelsea farewell during his trial at Everton, according to a deadline day transfer update.
Malik Mothersille “said his goodbyes” to Chelsea, but Joe Thomas believes the teenager is “unlikely” to join with Everton after passing his trial.

Despite having previously appeared in the under-21s team three times this season, the Liverpool Echo writer tweeted on deadline day (1 September) that the young player was leaving the London club but was not anticipated to sign a permanent contract with the Toffees.

The “highly-rated” 19-year-old reportedly signed trial agreements on Merseyside on August 14 “in view of signing him on a permanent basis,” but it appears that hasn’t happened.

He had other offers, despite the initial report’s hope that “an agreement between Everton and Chelsea will be formalized soon.”

He is no longer under contract with Chelsea, so there should be no rush to make a move before Friday at 11 p.m.

Therefore, there may still be room for a last-minute change of course, even if doing so would require the club to pay the London club compensation.

However, there is always a chance that he may prefer another location if he gets other offers.

But given that there were encouraging signs when he first went on trial and his anticipation was that he would sign a permanent contract with Everton, it must be a letdown for him to depart again.

After a summer in which the club again missed out on a number of striker targets before ultimately closing a deal for Beto, transfer activity at all levels of the club appears to be under strain at the moment.

Ellis Simms and Tom Cannon, two young attackers, both left this summer for Coventry City and Leicester, respectively, but it doesn’t appear like a future star will follow them.
