Everton now in advanced talks to sell Alex Iwobi, deal being finalised – Dharmesh Sheth
Everton are in advanced talks with Premier League rivals Fulham regarding a deal for Alex Iwobi, according to Dharmesh Sheth.
The Sky Sports News presenter reported on his personal Twitter account on Thursday (31 August) that the clubs are now finalising a fee and the structure of the deal.
Sheth added that the Nigeria international is open to the move to Fulham, with personal terms not expected to be an issue.
“Fulham in advanced talks with Everton over the signing of midfielder Alex Iwobi,” Sheth wrote on Twitter. “Clubs thought to be finalising fee & structure.
“One year left on contract and – as it stands – won’t be signing new deal. Iwobi open to move – personal terms not expected to be a problem.”
The Toffees find themselves in a tough position with star man Iwobi, who has been a key player for the club over the years.
It will be a big loss for Sean Dyche, particularly given their miserable start to the new season and how important Iwobi is to the team.
But from a financial aspect it certainly makes sense, with the Merseyside club keen to make money from his sale this summer, as opposed to losing him on a free when his contract expires next summer.
Iwobi played in Everton’s first two matches of the new season before suffering a hamstring injury against Aston Villa, but he should recover soon to play a key role in West London for the Cottagers.
The 27-year-old midfielder will return to the capital having played for North London club Arsenal before his move to Everton, with Iwobi playing almost 150 matches for the Gunners.
