Report: Everton make final decision on Leeds star Willy Gnonto after dramatic Tuesday U-turn
Everton’s pursuit of Leeds United winger Wilfried Gnonto appears to be all but over.
That is according to Football Transfers, who report talks between the two clubs have ‘reached a stalemate’, which could now be the end of their hopes of signing him.
Gnonto performed a dramatic U-turn on Tuesday as he returned to training with the rest of the first team squad at Leeds.
The 19-year-old held crunch talks with both Daniel Farke and Angus Kinnear that led to a positive resolution and Gnonto back in the fold at Elland Road.
Gnonto had handed in a transfer request on the day of Leeds‘ 1-1 draw with West Brom last week after refusing to play in either of the matches with Birmingham City and Shrewsbury Town.
Everton’s pursuit of Leeds’ Gnonto all but over
Everton had made Gnonto one of their primary targets this summer following Leeds’ relegation to the Championship.
However, with Gnonto still having four years left on his deal, of which does not contain a release clause, the Toffees have found negotiations difficult.
San Francisco 49ers Enterprises have made it clear throughout the summer that Gnonto is not for sale and appear to have stuck to their word as the window reaches the final stretch.
As per Sky Sports, Everton have seen four offers turned down by Leeds, the most recent of which was worth around £25 million.
With it now looking likely Gnonto will stay at Leeds, he has now plenty of work to do to get supporters back on side.

Everton want to sign Luis Sinisterra from Leeds United after Wilfried Gnonto deal collapses
Everton are turning their attentions to Luis Sinisterra after talks with Leeds saw their move for Wilfried Gnonto all but collapse, report FootballTransfers.
Writing on their official website (23 August), the news outlet report that the two clubs held talks on Monday about the Italy international but after the Whites reiterated their not for sale stance, the Toffees are now looking at alternatives.
Those options include PSV Eindhoven winger Johan Bakayoko and also Gnonto’s Elland Road teammate Sinisterra, who is training alone and refusing to play too as he looks to leave the Championship club.
Everton are looking unlikely to sign Wilfried Gnonto after being informed by Leeds that the winger is not for sale during crunch talks this week,” they wrote.
“But having talks on Monday, the Premier League outfit were infomed that Leeds were unwilling to let the Italian leave Elland Road, despite Gnonto handing in an official transfer request.
“It is not clear whether Everton will decide to come back in after talks reached an impasse, but the side are now in the process of considering other options, such as Johan Bakayoko of PSV Eindhoven and Luis Sinisterra, also at Leeds.”
Leeds have spent all summer trying to hold on to Gnonto and stop Everton signing him, but they couldn’t stop us getting Jack Harrison and now Sinisterra could join too.
Sean Dyche was clearly a big fan of the Leeds squad after being interested in Tyler Adams and Rodrigo too earlier in the window, and Sinisterra is a new name to come to the fore.
The Colombian’s record was good last season but he suffered a lot with injuries and that could be something that puts us off going forward, but he would no doubt be an easier deal to complete than Bakayoko.
The 20-year-old Belgian international is currently at PSV Eindhoven and playing Champions League football so convincing them to let him leave at this stage would be hard enough, but convincing him to join would likely prove even more difficult.
A deal for Sinisterra is clearly an option hence his removal from the first-team picture in recent weeks at Leeds, but Everton know they must move quickly and that the Yorkshire side are difficult negotiators so it will be interesting to see where it leads in the coming days.
