‘Nothing in that’: Rangers boss speaks out on Leeds United transfer rumour

Rangers boss Michael Beale has spoken out surrounding reports Leeds United are interested in midfielder Glen Kamara this summer.Glen Kamara - Player profile 23/24 | Transfermarkt

Kamara, 27, made 35 appearances across all competitions last season for Rangers.

The midfielder proved a solid player for the Scottish side as they went on to finish 2nd in the Scottish Premiership last time around.

Kamara is a Finnish international who has plenty experience. His quality has attracted interest this summer with it being reported Leeds United were keen on a deal for the Rangers man.

It was said a deal could cost the Championship side £5million this summer.

But, now Rangers boss Beale has offered an update on these links. Speaking to The Herald, he said:

“There’s nothing in that one at this moment.

“He’s training in isolation at the moment, not with the group, trying to get himself up to speed.

There’s a lot in the background with Glen as well with different enquiries and him talking to different people.

“So it’s best that he’s to the side of the group. I’ve got no issues with him on a personal level, it’s a conversation we had a good few months ago.”

Not over yet

Just because Leeds United don’t seem to have pursued this option yet doesn’t mean they won’t come to do so over the next couple of weeks.

Midfielder Tyler Adams looks set to leave the second tier club this summer so they need reinforcements in the middle and Kamara would fill that gap quite nicely.Hopefully I'm as good at Rangers' – Glen Kamara happy with Finland form | FourFourTwo

The Whites have suffered a poor start to the season, but it’s still early days and the right moves between now and the deadline could have them right in contention for an immediate return to the Premier League.

It will be hoped movement is seen on the transfer front soon to ensure Leeds United can compete with the many other sides hopeful of a top six push this time around.

Up next is a fixture against West Brom this Friday. It will be a tough outing for the Whites as they look to pick up their first league win of the 2023/24 campaign.
