Wolves boss Gary O’Neil expects more from Manchester United this season
Newly appointed Wolves manager Gary O’Neil is expecting more from Manchester United this season.
While the Reds will be without new star striker Rasmus Hojlund when Wolves come to Old Trafford on Monday night, the faithful support will get a chance to cast its eyes on two new signings make their competitive debuts.
Andre Onana is certain to start between the sticks and we’ll see Mason Mount among the starting midfielders.
Along with the new signings come greater expectations. Ten Hag ended United’s six-year trophy drought last season and he will want his team to make more progress this time around.
Wolves manager O’Neil is expecting improvements from his first opponents in his new job.
“I think they’ll be better than they were last season,” the former Bournemouth boss said during his press conference, as quoted by BBC Sport.
“It’s a big challenge. The big challenge for me is every other club in the Premier League has been working towards this game for six weeks, and we’ve had a very different pre-season.
“It’s not how you’d ideally want to prepare for the first game but there are no excuses.”
Julen Lopetegui left Wolves earlier this week and the club were quick to point O’Neil. We’ll be hoping his first game as Wolves boss ends in a heavy defeat.
