Everton transfer for Chermiti looks set for delay as BBC Sport update emerges
Youssef Chermiti’s transfer to Everton looks set to be delayed after BBC Sport’s update on the move.
The broadcaster reported (8 August) that the 19-year-old has undergone the first part of his medical and the second will take place today, but he will not be officially announced until before Friday (11 August)
This conflicts with earlier reports, when the Portuguese outlet Record claimed in their print edition (8 August) that the Toffees would announce the signing on Tuesday (8 August) and present him to the fans in the afternoon.
While Everton fans will be excited to finally see their man announced, the deal looks on the verge of completion and is just a matter of time.
Fabrizio Romano tweeted (7 August) that the youngster had landed in the UK ahead of his medical. His move will set Everton apart with £17.2million, according to the Liverpool Echo, and be their second attacking signing after Arnaut Danjuma joined on loan from Villarreal.
Toffees fans will just hope Chermiti passes the medical. He is likely to have a slower integration into the first team, so his announcement does not need to be rushed to appease any anxious fans.
With no Premier League experience and only 22 total appearances in senior football with Sporting Lisbon, the new boy will not be an instant impact signing.
However, he has proven to be one of the most promising youngster coming through the Portuguese leagues and with three goals and European experience, he could thrive.
However, Sean Dyche will be excited to unleash him when the time is right. The club need to ensure he is developed properly and nurtured to get the most out of him. While £17.1million is not a huge sum of money in today’s football climate, for Everton it is this summer amid economic uncertainty.
For now, the Goodison Park will have to wait patiently for the official announcement.
In other Everton news, Sean Dyche has his eyes set on a Leicester City “speedster” who could come for a reasonable fee.
