Kevin Overton, a 6-foot-5 guard who transferred from Drake University to Texas Tech University in April 2024, has reportedly entered the NCAA transfer portal. In his sophomore season at Texas Tech (2024-2025), Overton averaged 7.8 points and 3.7 rebounds per game, scoring in double figures in 11 games. He matched a season-high with 20 points against Arizona in the Big 12 Championship semifinals and also had 20 points in a non-conference win over Northern Colorado.
Overton’s collegiate career began at Drake, where as a freshman he averaged 11.3 points and 3.3 rebounds per game, starting all 35 games. He earned Missouri Valley Conference All-Freshman honors and was a four-time MVC Freshman of the Week. His performance contributed to Drake’s MVC Tournament championship and subsequent NCAA Tournament berth.
Before college, Overton played a postgraduate year at Sunrise Christian in Kansas, leading the team in scoring and steals, and contributing to a 30-win season under current Texas Tech assistant coach Luke Barnwell.
Overton’s decision to enter the transfer portal indicates he is exploring options for his remaining collegiate eligibility.
