‘Excellent’ Wolves transfer target now wants to leave his club, but they want £17m
Wolves have been linked with a move for Konstantinos Mavropanos – and it is now being reported that he wants to leave Stuttgart.
Julen Lopetegui is hopeful of signing a new centre-back ahead of the 2023/24 season.
Nathan Collins was sold earlier this summer and at the moment, Wolves are down to just three centre-back options – Craig Dawson, Nathan Collins and Toti Gomes.
Cash is very tight for the club at the moment.
Wolves overspent in the last two transfer windows and are now trying to balance the books so as not to break FFP rules.
That is making things difficult.
But Wolves may have received a possible boost over one of their supposed targets.
Mavropanos wants to leave Stuttgart amid Wolves transfer links
It is stated that he would prefer a move to the Premier League, a cometition he has played in before of course with Arsenal.
Sky Germany say that ‘some clubs from England’ are interested in the 25-year-old.
Apparently, he is like to cost around £17 million.
Given everything that has been written about Wolves’ financial situation this summer, that could potentially rule Wolves out.
Although it depends on which other players leave Molineux.
Wolves could also negotiate a lower initial fee with Stuttgart if they would be open to that.
Konstantinos Mavropanos is there for the taking, but Wolves’ financial situation could cost them
So it looks as though Mavropanos could be leaving Stuttgart this summer.
Wolves seem to be interested, but it could be that the club’s financial situation prevents them from moving. Or at least moving quickly for the defender.
There could be hope for Wolves in that, Sky Germany say ‘it can be assumed that a decision on Mavropanos’ future is still a long time coming’.
That may allow Wolves some time to sell more players and raise more funds.
It would be great to see Mavropanos head to Molineux, having really found his feet in Germany since he struggled at Arsenal.
He’s an ‘excellent defender’ who is also a goal threat.
