Air Noland enters transfer portal. How it affects Ohio State football’s depth chart
Air Noland has entered the NCAA transfer portal, becoming the second Ohio State quarterback in the last week to announce his intention to leave the team.
Top backup Devin Brown entered the portal last week, though he said he will remain with the team through its College Football Playoff run, which begins Saturday night against Tennessee.
Coach Ryan Day said Monday that Brown remains starter Will Howard’s backup, but that Julian Sayin has made strides.
It’s unclear whether Noland will remain with the team in the postseason. He did not play in any of Ohio State’s 12 games and was fifth in the pecking order behind Howard, Brown, Sayin and Lincoln Kienholz.
Noland was a five-star recruit last year and ranked sixth nationally by 247Sports.com.
But his future as a Buckeye became uncertain when Ohio State added Sayin as a freshman transfer from Alabama following coach Nick Saban’s retirement. Sayin was the No. 1-rated quarterback in the 2024 recruiting class and is now considered the front-runner to be Ohio State’s 2025 starter.
How many years of eligibility does Noland have remaining?
Wherever Noland lands, he will have four years of eligibility left as the 6-2, 220-pound quarterback did not play at all this season.
Air Noland stats
Noland did not post any stats with the Buckeyes, but he entered Ohio State in January having recorded over 10,000 passing yards and 100 touchdowns in high school, including 4,095 and 55 touchdowns as a junior.
When does transfer portal close?
The portal’s winter window is open through Dec. 28 or five days after a team’s last postseason game. A spring window follows in April.
