Latest Leicester City news from LeicestershireLive as James Maddison closes in on a move to Spurs
James Maddison’s imminent move to Tottenham will reportedly activate a sell-on-clause in his Leicester City contract.
The Foxes star, who has only one year left on his contract, is closing in on a reported £40million move to North London. It will bring an end to a five-year spell at the King Power Stadium for the midfielder who joined in 2018 from Norwich City for around £20m.
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is said to have been personally involved in negotiations between Spurs and Leicester, having taken a hands-on approach to land the playmaker for his new manager Ange Postecoglou. The Australian had reportedly identified the Leicester man as a priority in the summer transfer window.
Maddison has been one of the City’s best players in recent seasons and was part of Gareth Southgate’s England squad for their recent Euro 2024 qualifiers against Malta and North Macedonia.

And Pink Un claim that previous club Norwich are set to cash in on a “15% sell-on-clause” which was put in Maddison’s Leicester contract when a deal was negotiated for him to join the Foxes. Therefore If the fee for the 26-year-old is £40m, Norwich will receive around £3m as part of the deal to Spurs.
Championship play-off final runners-up Coventry City also reportedly have a between “10 and 15%” sell-on-clause in Maddison’s contract after he left the Sky Blues to join Norwich in 2016.
The playmaker has gone on to make over 200 appearances for the Foxes during a largely successful period in the East Midlands. Maddison will leave Leicester having won the FA Cup and Community Shield during his time at the club.
