Suhiru Anthony named Captain of SL Rugby squad
Sri Lanka Rugby has selected Suhiru Anthony from CR and FC to lead the national 15-a-side rugby team in the upcoming Asia Rugby Division I Tournament. The tournament will feature four nations and will take place at Racecourse Stadium starting from April 29.
Anthony, known for his skills as a lockforward, will receive support from Tharinda Ratwatte of Kandy Sports Club, who has been named vice captain.
Sanath Martis takes the helm as head coach of the Sri Lanka rugby team, backed by assistance from two coaches, Nilfer Ibrahim and Dushanth Lewke. Ibrahim and Lewke will work as assistants, focusing on coaching alongside Martis.
The squad comprises 30 members initially, but this will be reduced to 26 players before the tournament begins. Additionally, four players will remain as reserves in case of injuries. Any changes to the squad must be approved by the Ministry of Sports.
The tournament will see Sri Lanka competing against teams from India, Qatar, and Kazakhstan.
It promises to be an exciting event for rugby enthusiasts, with intense competition expected from all participating nations.
