Newcastle on verge of announcing ‘outstanding’ signing

Newcastle United have been busy on the transfer front this summer as they look to strengthen their ranks for the coming season.

The Magpies have made five signings to date, bringing goalkeepers Odysseas Vlachodimos and John Ruddy, plus defender Lloyd Kelly, to St James’ Park.

Newcastle have also made Lewis Hall’s loan move from Chelsea permanent and secured the signing of young Serbian defender Miodrag Pivas.

Now, it looks as though the Magpies are closing in on their sixth new arrival of the summer.

Newcastle United set to sign William Osula

The player in question is Sheffield United forward William Osula, who could be announced as Newcastle’s new signing by Wednesday.

According to Sky Sports journalists Keith Downie and Tim Thornton, the 21-year-old’s transfer to St James’ Park is set to be announced in the next 24 hours.

The Osula deal is in the final stages of being completed with a £10million fee up front plus £5million in add-ons, added the Sky Sports News report.

Who is Newcastle target William Osula?

Will Osula is a striker who currently plies his trade for Sheffield United and represents Denmark Under-21 at international level.

The 21-year-old joined the Blades in 2018 and made his senior breakthrough while at Bramall Lane, making 31 outings and scoring three goals to date.

Osula also took in a loan spell at Derby County in 2022-23, where he made 21 appearances, scoring five goals and also getting one assist.

He has been featuring for Sheffield United in pre-season this summer, often starting as a wide attacker on the left-hand side.

He scored in a win over York City last month, and Chris Wilder was full of praise for his player’s impressive display.

“When we changed the team around, I thought Will Osula was outstanding off the left,” Wilder said, as per the Northern Echo.

“He possibly could have had a hat-trick, but it was a great finish from him for the goal.”
