Eric Clapton sends message to Jürgen Klopp with classy gesture during Liverpool gig
Eric Clapton played his first gig in Liverpool for nearly 15 years on Saturday, and sent a message to Jürgen Klopp during a rendition of You’ll Never Walk Alone.
Jürgen Klopp’s imminent departure from Liverpool is attracting plenty of attention, and not just in the football world.
The German is set to bid farewell to Anfield next weekend after nearly nine years in charge. During that time, he has transformed the club, bringing it back to the pinnacle of English and European football.
His final game next weekend against Wolves is sure to be an emotional occasion for everyone associated with Liverpool. His influence has not only been felt at Anfield though, but throughout the city and beyond.
Numerous people have paid tribute to Klopp over the last few months following his shock announcement back in January. The latest to send his own message is none other than Eric Clapton.
Considered one of the greatest guitarists of all time, Clapton, who found fame in the 1960s with The Yardbirds and Cream before enjoying a successful solo career, was in Liverpool on Saturday for the second stop on his nine-date tour. It was the first time in nearly 15 years that he had played in the city.
And the 79-year-old certainly made sure to endear himself to the locals. As per the Liverpool Echo’s review of the gig, Clapton broke out into a rendition of You’ll Never Walk Alone to cheers and a few boos, most likely from some of the city’s Everton contingent.
