Key Sheffield Wednesday duo sign new deals as club announce contract extensions

Two Sheffield Wednesday men have signed new contracts at the club, with deals for Barry Bannan and Liam Palmer being announced.

Owls skipper, Barry Bannan, told The Star recently that he expected to be sticking around for his 10th year at Hillsborough, while Liam Palmer said recently that he’d be ‘gutted’ if he left, with this publication stating earlier today that talks were moving forward with pace.

Now it’s been confirmed that deals have been wrapped up for the pair, making them the first two who were offered new deals to have put pen to paper. A statement from the club today read, “Barry Bannan and Liam Palmer have agreed new contracts with Wednesday. Both players have proved hugely influential figures at Hillsborough, posting a mammoth 837 appearances in over two collective decades at the club. Club captain Bannan and our longest-serving current player Palmer will now extend their S6 stays…

“Both have coveted places in our top-20 appearance makers of all time, Bannan in 15th slot and Palmer in eighth. The ever-popular duo had a major influence on Wednesday’s dramatic Championship survival season last time out and follow in the footsteps of manager Danny Röhl, who last week extended his contract at the Hillsborough helm.”
