The Montreal Canadiens have signed defender Adam Engström to a three-year entry-level contract starting next season.
Engström had an up and down for Rögle. Engström has honed his defensive skills after emerging last year showcasing his offence. This year’s performance might be even more important for his continued professional career.
Engström finished the season with 22 (4+18) points in 51 games, something that would be considered a plateau in his development without considering Rögle’s season as a whole. The team struggled just to get into the playoffs before making a Cinderella run to the SHL Final. He added four assists in 15 playoff games.
Engström is a big defender that can play both sides, having been moved to his off side to finish off the season as he was paired with Brandon Davidson to form a reliable defensive pair when Rögle needed it the most towards the end of the season.
Engström will now have his first NHL training camp and is another player fighting for limited spots on the team’s defence. He was a third-round pick, 92nd overall, in the 2022 NHL Draft.
