Pelicans Are Expected To Engage Cavs In Trade Talks For Star Player
The Cleveland Cavaliers and New Orleans Pelicans have some similarities.
Both have promising young players who haven’t reached their potential.
Both have All-NBA-caliber guys.
Both are always expected to compete, and both always fall short.
So, why not help each other out?
According to a report by Evan Sidery of Forbes, that could be the case in the offseason, as the teams could engage in talks centered around Darius Garland.
The word around the league is that Garland’s camp would push for a trade if Donovan Mitchell decides to stay in Cleveland, and the Pelicans do have a big need for a lead guard.
Also, with all the questions about Brandon Ingram’s future in the Big Easy, it would make sense for the Cavaliers to try and pair him with Mitchell.
Ingram is one of the best small forwards in the league, but he’s struggled to stay healthy, and he might be better suited to be a No. 2.
As for Garland, he looked poised for a breakout, but his usage and shot attempts have dropped since he teamed up with Mitchell, so perhaps it’s just a matter of fit.
This could be a win-win situation for both teams and players, and perhaps the Cavaliers could also include Jarrett Allen in the deal to get more role players around Mitchell, Ingram, and Evan Mobley.
Still, if that’s not the case, expect to hear plenty of rumors surrounding these two players, as they will most likely be wearing different threads by the start of next season.
