Report: Josh Ho-Sang to Sign with KHL Club and Leave Maple Leafs Organization
It looks that the former forward for the Toronto Marlies will be joining the KHL’s HC Salavat.
Josh Ho-Sang, a resident of Ontario, is likely to continue his hockey career abroad.
Early on Saturday, Ho-Sang’s initials and a Maple Leaf with arrows pointing to the club’s logo appeared in a mysterious Instagram post shared by HC Salavat.
ESPN’s Kevin Weekes revealed shortly after the article that Ho-Sang was inking a one-year contract with the team.
Ho-Sang joined the Toronto Maple Leafs last season after starting to train at the team’s Etobicoke practice facility in the summer. After that, he signed a professional tryout contract and eventually inked an AHL one-year deal with the Toronto Marlies.
In an attempt to alter the story and public’s opinion of him as a player, Ho-Sang made an impression on Marlies with his play. In the end, he managed to secure a position on the Canadian Olympic Men’s Hockey Team for 2022. This was made possible by the NHL having to withdraw from the competition because to the continuing coronavirus outbreak.
Despite having three assists in five games with the Olympic team, Ho-Sang’s side lost to Sweden in the quarterfinals, preventing them from going farther.
Ho-Sang played in 47 games for the Marlies, tallying 16 goals and 35 points. He finished the season far more quickly than he had begun. The Maple Leafs took a different approach, using some of their remaining contract spots on other players, including college prospect Nick Abruzzese, in the hopes of having his AHL contract converted to an NHL one.
Ho-Sang played with two different Swedish clubs prior to moving to Toronto. In the first round of the 2014 NHL Draft, the New York Islanders selected him with the 28th overall pick.
