Sheffield Wednesday player ‘set for talks’ with South Yorkshire rivals ahead of exit

This summer, a Sheffield Wednesday player might be heading to a different South Yorkshire team on a free transfer.

The retained list of Sheffield Wednesday was recently revealed, and supporters were surprised by a few names.

The decision to allow George Byers to go this summer was one of the biggest surprises; he spent a season on loan with League One team Blackpool. Byers’ contract ends next month.

In other news, supporters were taken aback to learn that goalkeeper Cameron Dawson, who lost his spot in the starting lineup to James Beadle on loan, was being given a new contract.

“Set for talks” with Rotherham United is Reece James.
According to reports, James will hold discussions with Rotherham United, who placed last in the Championship standings at the end of the 2023–24 season.

However, the Millers have already signed three new players this summer under the direction of new manager Steve Evans, including Jonson Clarke-Harris on a free transfer.

And now, according to journalist Alex Miller, Rotherham may sign James, who is reportedly “set for talks” with the team. James is reportedly also being considered by other League One and League Two teams.

According to Miller, Byers is also a target for Rotherham United, and English Football League teams are also showing a lot of interest in him.

Reece James is another player whose name will be revealed next month. The left-back played in just one league game in 2024 and only eight times during the 2023–24 Championship campaign.

However, the 30-year-old, who just signed a permanent contract with Sheffield Wednesday last summer, is now scheduled to speak with a rival South Yorkshire team of the Owls.
