The NCAA Transfer Portal is closed until the spring but players can still announce their intentions to move on when things get started again in April. Florida State has already had a fair amount of attrition to its roster but the departures have continued even though the semester is underway in Tallahassee.

On Thursday evening, redshirt junior wide receiver Joshua Burrell announced that he plans to enter the portal as a graduate transfer. Burrell is on track to earn his degree from FSU in May and he’ll have two seasons of eligibility remaining to utilize at his next stop.

The South Carolina native was limited by injuries throughout his time with the Seminoles. He appeared in nine games this past and recorded no stats with the majority of his contributions coming on special teams. A year earlier, Burrell saw action in nine games before undergoing season-ending surgery in December.

The former three-star prospect signed with Florida State in the 2021 class. He concludes his time in garnet and gold with 20 appearances. Burrell was consistently a member of the ACC Honor Roll and a multi-year Seminole Scholar.

“After much prayer and deep reflection, I decided to enter my name in the transfer porta. My plans are to graduate from Florida State in May 2024 and I will have two years of eligibility remaining as a grad transfer.”

Florida State will return a talented group of wide receivers despite the loss of Johnny Wilson and Keon Coleman. The unit includes redshirt senior Kentron Poitier, redshirt senior Ja’Khi Douglas, redshirt senior Darion Williamson, redshirt senior Deuce Spann, senior Malik Benson, sophomore Hykeem Williams, sophomore Vandrevius Jacobs, sophomore Destyn Hill, and redshirt freshman Jalen Brown, among others.

Outside of Burrell, the Seminoles saw quarterback Tate Rodemaker (Southern Miss), quarterback AJ Duffy (San Diego State), Rodney Hill, running back CJ Campbell (FAU), wide receiver Goldie Lawrence (UCF) tight end Markeston Douglas (Arizona State), tight end Preston Daniel (Buffalo), offensive lineman Thomas Shrader (Appalachian State), offensive lineman Bless Harris (TCU), offensive lineman Daughtry Richardson (FAU), offensive lineman Qae’shon Sapp (ECU), defensive end Gilber Edmond (South Carolina), defensive lineman Dennis Briggs, defensive tackle Malcolm Ray (Rutgers), defensive tackle Ayobami Tifase (Georgia Tech), linebacker Dylan Brown-Turner (UTEP), and kicker Tyler Keltner (Oklahoma) enter the portal during the recent transfer window that closed on January 4.
