Sheffield Wednesday transfer news latest as Ike Ugbo signs and much more

Sheffield Wednesday have been in a number of transfer headlines so far this month.

Sheffield Wednesday look like a team who mean business.

A number of possible new hires seem to be under the particular attention of Head of Recruitment Kevin Beadell and Danny Rohl as the Owls compete for Championship safety this season.

The first to join this month was James Beadle, but it appears like Wednesday may sign a few more players before February 1st, both long-term and short-term.

Here, we compile the most recent transfer rumors involving Sheffield Wednesday.

Ike Ugbo placards
Yesterday saw the successful transfer of Sheffield Wednesday’s second January addition, striker Ike Ugbo from Troyes.

The 25-year-old played for Cardiff City on loan during the first part of the season, when he scored four goals in 20 appearances for the Bluebirds in the Championship.

A loan recall is pending for Jeff Hendrick.
Due to his lack of success in 13 league games for the Sheffield Wednesday Owls, John Buckley’s loan from Blackburn Rovers was recently terminated early.

It has since been disclosed that Jeff Hendrick may be the next player whose loan period ends on Wednesday.

According to The Star, Sheffield Wednesday is in talks to terminate Hendrick’s Hillsborough loan; this season, he has only made ten appearances in the Championship.

Sheffield Wednesday have been closely linked with West Ham midfielder Conor Coventry this month, but he since signed for League One Charlton Athletic.

Journalist Richard Cawley revealed last night that the 23-year-old was set to be announced as a Charlton player today; the Addicks have today signed Coventry on a three-and-a-half year deal.

With Tyreeq Bakinson and Buckley having already left this month, and Hendrick looking set to leave, expect Wednesday to now target some new central midfielders.

Earlier in the month, it was claimed that George Byers could be on the move this month.

It was said that Byers could be offloaded should Coventry arrive at Hillsborough; but since then, Coventry’s move to Wednesday has fallen through, and it’s been revealed that the Owls have no interest in selling the 27-year-old Byers this month.

He’s featured 22 times in the Championship this season but has been left out of Sheffield Wednesday’s last two fixtures.

The Owls return to league duties with a trip to 3rd place Southampton this weekend.
