Kansas basketball eyeing transfer portal guard who could be Jayhawks final addition

During the offseason, the Kansas basketball team added four players via the transfer portal, but HC After high school signee Labaron Philon decommitted from the Jayhawks, Bill Self may try to fill the 13th and final scholarship. He’ll have to use the portal to accomplish that.

The coaching staff may have found the player the Jayhawks need, if they are really looking for someone to round out the roster. Jordan Ivy-Curry, a former guard for UTSA, withdrew his pledge to Virginia Tech and resumed recruiting. Kansas has been one of the best universities to recruit him since doing that.

After a stellar season with the Roadrunners, Kansas basketball reached out to UTSA guard transfer Ivy-Curry, who unexpectedly asked to renounce his commitment to Virginia Tech this week. In 21 games played off the bench, he averaged 17.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.0 assists. Guards have been Kansas’ primary focus during the transfer portal cycle, so it seems natural that Self would find his style appealing.

The guard, who stands 6 feet 2 and weighs 170 pounds, is a graduate transfer who is in his last year of eligibility. Despite spending the most of his collegiate career on the second unit, he continues to put up impressive scoring totals. Ivy-Curry may not be the finest shooter in the portal, but during the 2023–24 campaign, he made 5.7 attempts per game and shot 38.7% from beyond the arc.

Kansas is without a doubt the most significant program on the list of universities that he was in contact with. Some universities that have expressed interest are Texas A&M, TCU, Ole Miss, and Oklahoma. If the Jayhawks and Coach Self truly went for him, though, they might be able to get a commitment from him.

Ivy-Curry would join Dajuan Harris, Zeke Mayo, and incoming sophomore Elmarko Jackson in the backcourt.

and McDowell Jamari. If he were to go to Lawrence, he might have trouble getting playing time, but he might be a player who is prepared to play fewer minutes to help the team win.

The unexpected shift in plans is all the more strange considering that he was anticipated to play a major part in the Hokies’ starting lineup. Maybe he got a call from a Hall of Fame coach and decided to alter his mind.
