Activated Three Wigan Athletic players are highlighted as Wrexham attempts to attract free agents.
In an attempt to bolster his League One roster, Phil Parkinson is looking to add players to Wrexham this summer.
As Wrexham was promoted from League Two, they had to make some important decisions right away.
Two of the captains of the Wrexham team, Ben Tozer and Luke Young, are departing this summer after not receiving offers for new contracts.
At the conclusion of their contracts this summer, players including Rob Lainton, Aaron Hayden, Jordan Tunnicliffe, and Callum McFadzean will also be released.
This summer, Phil Parkinson of Wrexham needs to add fresh players, and he is currently targeting three players who were released on Friday.
Wigan Athletic trio desired by Wrexham Parkinson has a number of openings to fill, but the news that three players from the same club are being considered may surprise Wrexham supporters.
According to the Rob Ryan Red Podcast, Wrexham has already made inquiries about Tom Pearce.
Wrexham was quick to call and express interest in the trio after Wigan chose not to offer them new contracts.
Who is Tom Pearce, the Wrexham target?
Pearce, who was born in Ormskirk, began his career at Everton and then joined Leeds United in 2014.
At the age of sixteen, Pearce began his career in the Leeds system and made seven appearances in the Championship first squad.
Pearce signed a contract worth approximately £300,000 to join Wigan Athletic following a loan stint at Scunthorpe United in 2019.
The 26-year-old made 24 appearances in League One last season, tallying one goal and four assists.
Pearce, who is mostly a left back but has also played as a left wing back, might be Jacob Mendy’s perfect opponent at Wrexham.
Wrexham-linked Stephen Humphrys profiled
Humphrys is another Northern boy, hailing from Oldham and initially coming up through the ranks at Bury.
Fulham pounced for Humphrys in 2013 and the forward made two Championship appearances in the 2016-17 season.
Loan spells at Shrewsbury Town, Rochdale and Scunthorpe United eventually resulted in Humphrys leaving Fulham for Southend United in 2019.
That spell saw Humphrys score 11 times in 35 games before a similar record – 11 goals in 29 games – at Rochdale.
Wigan snapped Humphrys up in 2021 and he smashed hit five goals in 38 League One outings before heading on loan to Scotland with Hearts.
Now 26 – just like Pearce – Humphrys is coming off the back of a nine-goal League One campaign, whilst also notching three assists.
A versatile forward who can play up front, off the striker or out wide, Humphrys could bring versatility to Wrexham’s attacking options.
Josh Magennis in detail
Magennis hails from Northern Ireland and after starting with Lisburn Distillery and Glentoran, the striker joined the Cardiff City setup was a 16-year-old.
The real quirk is that Magennis actually started out as a goalkeeper before carving out a career as a centre forward.
Magennis only played 10 times for Cardiff before heading to Aberdeen in 2010, racking up more than 120 appearances for the Dons.
The 6ft 2in front man had further spells at Kilmarnock and Charlton Athletic before playing under Phil Parkinson at Bolton Wanderers.
Magennis hit just seven goals in 45 games for Bolton before joining Hull City, where he scored 26 goals in 95 games; 19 of those goals came in League One.
Now released after 12 goals in 95 games at Wigan Athletic, Magennis is looking for another club.
Magennis is certainly a veteran presence and knows League One well but he has never really been particularly prolific.
The Northern Ireland international – who has 11 goals in 76 caps for his country – has only ever hit double figures in four seasons over his career.
A physical and experienced centre forward at 33, Magennis would only really make sense for Wrexham if Steven Fletcher can’t be convinced to sign on for another year.
