The Houston Rockets are having a great season. In the second day of free agency, they continued where they left off, breaking the bank to win the Fred VanVleet pursuit. They added many players to bolster the roster around their young core.

Houston signed big man Jock Landale, a free agent, after acquiring Dillon Brooks via free agency and Patty Mills through trade. According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the former center for the Phoenix Suns agreed to a four-year, $32 million contract to join the Rockets.

Without a doubt, Houston had a huge day because they now had two of their main goals in Brooks and VanVleet. Considering that they now have a solid guard behind FVV and Jalen Green, the deal for Mills wasn’t too horrible either.

In addition to Landale providing them with a strong big man backup to Alperen Sengun and Jabari Smith Jr., Brooks strengthens Houston’s wing defense.

The Rockets, who have been connected to a possible James Harden reunion in recent months, want to expedite their rebuild and quickly become a relevant team in the NBA. However, they abandoned their chase of Harden and turned their attention to a number of veteran players who complemented their core, most notably Sengun, Green, and Smith Jr.

The Rockets hope to expedite their rebuilding process and make a quick comeback. They are in the best free agency class of 2023 thus far. Having the largest cap space entering the FA draft—roughly $60 million—they wasted no time in making use of it.
