The New York Mets have surprised a few people this season.
New York has bounced back from a dismal start to the season to presently sit at 13-11. At the end of the season, this Mets team has reason for genuine optimism as they could be in the postseason race.
Ace Kodai Senga hasn’t played for New York yet this season, but he should return eventually to assist the team win. If New York is still in the running for a postseason spot in the summer, then adding another elite player to the rotation might make sense.
According to Tim Kelly of Bleacher Report, one player that is anticipated to be moved is promising starter Jesús Luzardo of the Miami Marlins.
“It may not be to the same extent they sold after winning championships in 1997 and 2003, but expect the Miami Marlins to be the most active seller in advance of the trade deadline, as new president of baseball operations Peter Bendix tries to retool the team in his image,” Kelly stated. Providing he recovers
“In 50 starts in the 2022 and 2023 seasons, Luzardo recorded a 3.48 ERA. The fact that he won’t be able to sign a free agency contract until after the 2026 campaign adds even more worth to him.”
Should the Marlins decide to trade Luzardo, he might be the kind of pitcher that helps elevate New York. This year, New York has the potential capital to pull off a coup and may surprise a few.
