To secure a top-five selection, Kane Cornes wants Richmond to trade Liam Baker to the Fremantle Dockers and West Coast Eagles.

Football commentator Kane Cornes believes Richmond should cash in on Liam Baker’s trade value after The West Australian exclusively revealed the Tiger had bought a Perth property.

Baker was a target for West Coast two years ago when he was coming out of contract, but the 26-year-old chose to remain at the Tigers.

The Subiaco product now appears ready to return to his home state after buying a multi-million-dollar riverside property in Mount Pleasant.

However, he would not be a free agent, and Cornes has urged the Tigers to make the most of the opportunity to gain draft picks, even going as far as to suggest he would fetch a top-five selection.

As a result of the exclusive report by The West Australian that the Tigers had bought a home in Perth, football analyst Kane Cornes believes Richmond could capitalize on Liam Baker’s trade value.

Two years earlier, when Baker’s contract was ready to expire, West Coast was considering signing him; nevertheless, the 26-year-old chose to remain with the Tigers.

It appears the Subiaco product is ready to return home after recently investing millions of dollars in a riverfront home in Mount Pleasant.

But since he wouldn’t be a free agent, Cornes has encouraged the Tigers to seize the opportunity to obtain draft picks; he even made a suggestion that he might fetch a pick in the top five.

Plot thickens in Kane Cornes' abusive AFL texting scandal

Fremantle has a plethora of first-round picks coming into the draft this year thanks to a trade for Port Adelaide’s pick and the agreement to send Lachie Schultz to Collingwood.

And Cornes thinks that’s what it would take for Baker to leave the Tigers.

“Absolutely, I would assume so (a first-round choice). Although I wouldn’t expect them to select in the top five, there are a lot of things you could do with future selections and split picks,” he stated.

Please understand that I genuinely adore him as a player. This is not meant as criticism; in my opinion, he is a very good player. Cash in now, though, given Richmond’s current situation and my assessment of where it’s headed. You’ll receive significant offers.
