Sean Dyche wants to reunite with Burnley striker Wout Weghorst at Everton

Sean Dyche wants to be reunited with Burnley striker Wout Weghorst at Goodison Park as Everton step up their chase for a striker, according to 90min (11 July).

The Toffees were linked with a move for the former Manchester United striker earlier in the summer, although nothing came from the rumours at the time.

But according to a new report Dyche is now ready to be reunited with the 30-year-old Holland international and is interested in linking up in Merseyside, with Burnley open to letting him leave.

Everton need a striker undoubtedly, and with Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s physical profile it makes sense that Dyche wants Weghorst.

But it can’t be ignored that he struggled massively under Dyche before he was sacked at Burnley, then struggled hugely at Manchester United last season with just two goals in 20+ appearances in all competitions.

His ability to link up play is good but he really struggles with finding the back of the net, and his lack of athleticism and explosiveness doesn’t bode well for him.

While it’s likely that Weghorst is going to be a relatively cheap transfer to seal, that can’t be the criteria for signing a striker to help us stay in the division again and push us on to the next level.

We need more, but if Dyche believes Weghorst can offer what he needs to improve the team then we have to back him and hope he gets it right. He’s earned our trust at this point.

Everton are now pushing to sign ‘great’ player that Zlatan Ibrahimovic thinks has a big future ahead of him

Everton are pushing forward with a move for Anthony Elanga.

That’s according to Foot Mercato, who have reported that the Toffees have reignited their interest in the Manchester United youngster.

Reports in January claimed that Everton were keen on a loan deal for the Swede in January, however the Red Devils blocked the move and he instead remained at Old Trafford.

Elanga was thrust into the limelight during the 2021-22 season, where he made 21 appearances in the Premier League and netted twice.

The winger wasn’t able to build on his development last season, failing to score and only managing five starts in the top flight as he continued to be linked with a move away.

United looking increasingly likely to sign a new striker and they could also hand Amad Diallo a chance in the first team, leaving Elanga’s future at the club looking bleak.

Erik ten Hag’s side could now sanction a move away for Elanga and Everton are eager to have a second attempt at signing him.

Elanga is seeking regular first team action after struggling for minutes with United. The forward made his feelings clear back in March, telling Aftonbladet: “It is frustrating. You want to play, it’s important.

“But whether you play or not, it’s up to the coach, not me.”

Everton can help develop Anthony Elanga

Anthony Elanga was arguably thrown in at the deep end when he wasn’t ready, making 21 appearances in his first full season mainly because Manchester United didn’t have many other options.

There has been a lot of pressure on the Sweden international’s shoulders when he could really just do with another club to develop and enjoy his football.

Elanga is clearly full of talent, with compatriot Zlatan Ibrahimovic recognising that he has a big future ahead of him.

“[Elanga is] a great talent, we are proud and happy that he comes from Sweden,” Ibrahimovic told SVT Sport in March.

“He has all the future ahead of him, and if he continues just as he has done, it looks positive. It’s just fighting, never being content, striving for more. How much he can develop depends on him.”

The youngster will be desperate to show his ability and Sean Dyche could be the man to help him out.

A loan deal for Elanga is risk-free and is one the Toffees should be seriously considering.
