‘considerably more serious’: The 28-year-old Everton player will now be absent for considerably longer than planned.
Andre Gomes’ injury may be far more serious than Everton has indicated.
According to injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar, Sean Dyche may have exaggerated Gomes’ ‘calf tightness’.
Following his return from a loan spell with Lille, the midfielder’s future at Everton appeared to be in doubt.
Gomes, the highest-paid player at Goodison Park, was extensively linked with a move to Turkey but chose to stay in Merseyside.
Dyche was yet to reintroduce Gomes into the first team setup, and he hasn’t played for the Toffees since May 2022, however it now appears like he will have to wait much longer.
Dyche recently claimed that Gomes’ absence was due to calf discomfort, but Brar claims differently.
Dr Rajpal Brar told Goodison News: “Based on not playing this season, unless it’s purely a managerial decision, it does sound more like an overt injury than just calf tightness.”
“Calf injuries are also notorious for being extremely sensitive and prone to re-injury.”
“The other consideration is ‘calf’ can refer to the entire calf complex which also includes structures like the Achilles which is far more grave.”
Will Andre Gomes make an appearance for Everton this season?
If Andre Gomes had been fit, he would have started Everton’s Carabao Cup match against Aston Villa tonight, with Dyche allegedly anxious to welcome him back into the group.
The 30-year-old has previously been frozen out of the squad, but it would be foolish to continue paying him large amounts while failing to capitalize on his skill.
Everton have few options in midfield after Alex Iwobi moved to Fulham, so Gomes will be anxious to get back to full fitness so he can force his way back into the picture.

Early Everton team news vs. Aston Villa: Injury expert Ben Dinnery estimates that Jack Harrison has a 25% chance of being able to make his Everton debut this week.
Before Wednesday’s [27 September] EFL Cup match against Aston Villa, the injury specialist posted the preliminary team information on his Premier Injuries website.
On August 14, Harrison signed a season-long loan agreement with Leeds United, although a hip injury has prevented him from playing for the Toffees.
Harrison recently started working out again and expedited his rehabilitation by playing 45 minutes for the Everton U21s against Norwich City last Friday [22 September] in Premier League 2.
The other injured players for Everton are Dele Alli, Seamus Coleman, and Andre Gomes. On Saturday, September 30, Everton will play Luton Town in the Premier League.
While Sean Dyche will undoubtedly be anxious to get Harrison back on the field as soon as possible, the last thing the 26-year-old needs is for the injury to worsen.
The winger looked to emerge unhurt from the U21 match, so the current indications are very encouraging.
The Leeds loanee now has a chance to at least be a member of the matchday squad with the possibility of making his debut off the bench in the games against Aston Villa and Luton.
If not, Everton will play at home against Bournemouth on October 7 before the second season-long international break.
Even though the Toffees’ 3-1 victory against Brentford at the weekend may have signaled the beginning of their offensive resurgence, Dyche will welcome Harrison’s return from injury.
