News from the Championship as Matija Sarkic is expected to miss time at Millwall, a major injury blow for Stoke City’s summer acquisition target

With the revelation that he will be out of commission for up to 12 weeks, Matija Sarkic has received yet another unfortunate round of injury news.

While on loan at Stoke City for a half-season, the 26-year-old goalkeeper had flashes of his talent in the Championship, albeit his performance was significantly hindered by a quad injury he sustained in his seventh game. In the summer, it was anticipated that he would return permanently, but at the last minute, Stoke decided to take a chance and sign Mark Travers on a temporary loan from Bournemouth.

Instead, Sarkic joined Gary Rowett at Millwall, where he has already made an impact in the first few weeks of the season. However, on September 2, he had to play through pain to draw 1-1 with Birmingham, another old club, and hasn’t been seen since.

Rowett had stated that Sarkic will be sidelined “for a while” following a 3-0 defeat to Leeds on Sunday; Southwark News has now clarified that this implies roughly three months.

Injuries to Vidigal, Mmaee, and Hoever for Stoke City before of their matchup against Huddersfield Town
Stoke City’s midweek Championship trip to Huddersfield Town will feature team news.

Ki-Jana Hoever is with Stoke City on a season-long loan from Wolves.

When Stoke City travels to Huddersfield Town for a midweek match, they hope to have Ki-Jana Hoever available. But due to a frustratingly injury-strewn start to the season, Alex Neil is anticipated to still be without at least three other important players.

When Stoke traveled to Norwich on Saturday, Hoever’s unexpected absence meant that Mehdi Leris was required to fill in at right-back, with deadline-day acquisition Junior Tchamadeu making his debut in that position as a substitute in the waning minutes. The season-long loanee from Wolves, who was representing the Netherlands under-21 team last week, is anticipated to return to the team soon.

After the game at Carrow Road, Neil remarked, “I didn’t realize he was going to be (out) until (Friday). He could not train yesterday. We had one done. It won’t last over the long haul. We’ll give him a call to see whether he can play in the upcoming game.

However, Stoke won’t likely be traveling to Huddersfield on Wednesday without their starting left-back Enda Stevens and two of their starting attackers, Andre Vidigal and Ryan Mmaee. Vidigal, a summer acquisition who has already displayed game-changing potential in the Championship, suffered an ankle injury late in the game against Millwall, while Mmaee, who signed from Hungary champions Ferencvaros to lead the line, strained his hamstring.

virtually shortly after beating Rotherham in the cup with his first club goal.
