Everton close to £15m Che Adams agreement, Southampton confident of deal despite MSP development
Southampton are still confident a deal with Everton can be reached for the transfer of Che Adams, despite the MSP investment deal collapsing, according to the Liverpool Echo.
As reported online by the Echo (25 August), it has been more than a week since the Toffees submitted an official bid for the striker and both parties are now close to agreeing on an overall fee of £15million.
However, without a cash injection from MSP, there is financial uncertainty surrounding how much the Merseyside-based club can offer the Saints as an initial downpayment for the 27-year-old.
Nonetheless, sources close to the St Marys club reportedly believe the deal could still happen, although there are doubts emerging with another Premier League club also interested in the Scotland international. In addition, Adams would be willing to sign a new contract keeping him on the South Coast if he remains there when the window shuts.
Tick Tock
It appears as if Adams remains a viable option for Sean Dyche’s side, with the Saints still willing to do business, although time is now of the essence. Not only is the transfer window close to closing, with September just around the corner, but the emergence of Premier League competition for Adams’ signature increases the pressure on Everton to get a deal done.
What remains to be seen is whether or not they have the financial capability to strike a deal after troubles with MSP. If the money is there, officials at the club need to get their wallets out quickly as they cannot afford to miss out on a striker of Adams’ quality, especially with his current club willing to do business.
Adams is in the prime years of his career and has vast experience of English football and is one of the best frontmen available on the market for Everton at the moment.
With him in their side, they could avoid the drop, which would be a much bigger financial hit than the £15million it would cost to get him.
