Report: Forest now seriously close to signing 53-cap international, deal is practically done

Nottingham Forest appear to be edging closer to signing left-back Marcos Acuna from Sevilla.

Journalist Manu Sainz confirms in his report that the Spanish side have moved quickly to sign Stuttgart defender Borna Sosa after Acuna agreed a deal to join the Reds.

Should the 31-year-old sign for Steve Cooper’s side, he would join Gonzalo Montiel at the City Ground – the pair played together at Sevilla and for the Argentinian national side.

However, the Reds aren’t the only Premier League side interested in signing the 53-cap international, with Unai Emery’s Aston Villa also said to be interested in Acuna.

Who is Nottingham Forest target, Marcos Acuna?

Marcos Acuna came through the academy at Ferro Carril Oeste, before breaking into the first-team in 2010 – going on to make 117 appearances for his boyhood club over a four-year stint.

The defender made his move to fellow Argentinian side Racing Club in 2014, scoring on his debut in a 1-0 win over San Martin de San Juan.

He enjoyed a successful spell at Racing, featuring 78 times and scoring 16 goals before leaving for Europe in 2017.

Acuna joined Sporting Lisbon in Portugal, before making his move to his current club Sevilla where he’s played 92 times in the last three seasons.

Should the Argentinan defender follow in Montiel’s footsteps, he would bring a wealth of experience which includes triumphs in the Europa League, Copa America and World Cup.

He offers more than just being a left-back. His versatility allows him to play central midfield, or even in wide attacking positions.

Forest should be doing all they can to secure Acuna’s signature, as he would provide much-needed experience and quality to the current Reds squad.
