RADZINSKI SELECTS HIS EVERTON/FULHAM SIX-A-SIDE TEAM
We asked former striker Tomasz Radzinski, who played for both Everton and Saturday’s opponents, Fulham, to choose a combined six-a-side team made up of three players he played with from each side.
Radzinski made 101 Blues appearances between 2001 and 2004, before sealing a switch to Fulham, where he featured 115 times from 2004 to 2007.
Ahead of naming five talented outfielders, he began his picks by choosing a legendary Premier League shot-stopper.
Edwin van der Sar – Fulham
TR: “It’s quite an easy one. I mean no disrespect to any keeper at Fulham or Everton, but Edwin really stood out. It was very difficult to score against this guy in training. It felt like the goal was tiny! Usually, it’s the other way around, but with Edwin, you had a feeling he had it covered everywhere. He was definitely the best goalkeeper I ever played with.”
Carlos Bocanegra – Fulham
TR: “Carlos was very, very tough to get past. Even though he wasn’t the quickest defender, he was very smart in his positioning and strong in his upper body. It would be very difficult to go past someone like him.”
Thomas Gravesen – Everton
TR: “You need a bulldog in there – someone who’s going to terrorise every single person on the football pitch, and that has to be Tommy Gravesen! I think I would take Tommy every day in that centre of midfield because he would be running everywhere, tackling everybody. From time to time, he’d score a fantastic goal. He went to Real Madrid, and that’s not a fluke. It shows his hard work and dedication to the game.”
Luis Boa Morte – Fulham
TR: “He’s someone who will be at Goodison for the game – on the coaching staff for Fulham. A brilliant left foot, fantastic vision, and you could always expect the unexpected from Luis. It was really great to play with him. His passing skills and vision were unmatched at Fulham, so when I was up front, it would be great to have him playing in support. Unfortunately, most of the time at Fulham, I was on the other wing, so I didn’t get too much service from him!”
Paul Gascoigne – Everton
TR: “For me, this is an easy pick. Some might disagree, but in the short time I had playing with him, I thought he was a genius. That’s the only way I can describe him – just a genius. He was absolutely fantastic.”
Wayne Rooney – Everton
TR: “It has to be Wayne. He’d be my first choice for an Everton player. He was very much in the beginning of his career, and what he was really capable of didn’t fully come out until a matchday. Superb. He had magnificent feet, was so skilful and had real mental toughness, too. He is one of the best players the sport has ever seen.”
