Major transfer development today could be bad news for Nottingham Forest – opinion

A huge transfer announcement made this morning involving Harry Kane and Tottenham could have huge repercussions for Nottingham Forest.

It’s been claimed that Tottenham have now agreed a fee with Bayern Munich to sell their talismanic goalscorer for £86 million.

It’s been claimed for weeks that Spurs would move for Forest star Brennan Johnson should the England captain opt for a move to the Bundesliga.

Now, that notion might become a reality. Tottenham will want to spend that £86 million pretty quickly and Forest are now in danger.

Kane is desperate to win something. It’s so often been the stick to beat him with that although he scores for fun, he doesn’t have anything to show for it.

At Bayern, he should prove more than capable of keeping on the goal trail. It’s also hard to imagine them not winning the Bundesliga this season.

Tottenham face Brentford on Sunday. This update comes at the worst possible time for them and Ange Postecoglou would like a replacement sorting soon.

Losing Johnson would be detrimental to Forest. Some might say that recouping £50 million would allow the club to strengthen, but the 22-year-old is so important.

All eight of his goals in the Premier League last term proved vital. Furthermore, if he could hit double figures with Forest this season, he’d be worth even more!

The ball is now in Kane’s court. He must decide whether to prioritise winning trophies over claiming the inevitable Premier League goalscoring record.

If he goes, Forest would perhaps be wise to block all calls from North London! In seriousness, we might be about to find out just how serious Tottenham are about Johnson.

If Postecoglou does want him, Daniel Levy will likely make a move. The Reds must weigh up the pros and the cons from their perspective and make a decision based on a number of factors.

Forest must stand firm on this one. All summer, it’s been claimed that £50 million was the magic figure and they shouldn’t bend over backwards to help Tottenham.

Kane’s departure will naturally make a lot of Forest fans uneasy. Now, Tottenham must put their money where their mouth is regarding their interest in Johnson.
