Luton Town and Queens Park Rangers want to sign Asmir Begovic with Everton exit to be official within 24 hours
k Rangers are battling to sign Asmir Begovic, with his Everton exit set to become official withinLuton Town and Queens Par 24 hours according to TEAMtalk.
The Bosnian veteran will leave Everton when his contract expires at midnight tonight (June 30), bringing an end to his two-year spell at Goodison Park
And now according to a new report, Championship club QPR are looking to convince him to drop down a division with Begovic holding talks with both clubs about his future.
“Luton Town and Queens Park Rangers are battling it out to sign former Everton goalkeeper Asmir Begovic, TEAMtalk understands,” they wrote (30 June).
“Begovic is understood to have held talks with both clubs and is now weighing his options whether to stay in the Premier League or drop down to the Championship with QPR.”
Everton offered Begovic a new contract to keep him at the club and ensure that their goalkeeper unit would stick together, but he decided to reject the offer and move on with his career.
His new club will likely need to make him their number one considering the decision to move on, and that explains exactly why Everton couldn’t convince him to stick around.
He was never going to displace Jordan Pickford as the first-choice stopper any time soon and at his age, he doesn’t have many more years left at the top level.
It’s clear the level he is at now and it makes sense that two lowly clubs want his experience to help them in their goals for the new season.
Everton will need to replace him as he leaves, and it will be hard to find a number two as good as him, but that just adds to the tasks that Sean Dyche has this summer.
