Brigham Young University (BYU) has officially parted ways with head women’s basketball coach Amber Whiting after three seasons at the helm. The university announced on March 8, 2025, that Whiting will not return for the 2025–26 season, concluding a tenure that began in 2022.
During her time at BYU, Whiting compiled an overall record of 45–51, including a 19–35 mark in conference play. The Cougars finished 13–17 in the 2024–25 season, with a 4–14 record in Big 12 competition. Under her leadership, BYU secured two ranked victories—defeating No. 18 Baylor in February 2024 and No. 20 Oklahoma State in February 2025. The team participated in the WNIT in 2023 and the inaugural WBIT in 2024 but did not advance past the first round in either tournament.
Associate head coach Lee Cummard, a former BYU men’s basketball player, has been named interim head coach for the women’s program. Cummard, who has been with the team since 2018, previously served as acting head coach during a brief period in 2019, leading the Cougars to victories over ranked opponents.
The search for a permanent head coach is underway, with several potential candidates being considered. These include Adam Wardenburg, Morgan Bailey, and Lee Cummard, all of whom have connections to Utah and the LDS community.
A key priority for the new coach will be to retain standout freshman Delaney Gibb, who was named Big 12 Freshman of the Year in 2025 after averaging 17.4 points per game and shooting 39.5% from three-point range.
