The Lions are reportedly moving on from their assistant defensive line coach Cameron Davis.

The Detroit Lions’ coaching staff will be without another defensive player. According to NFL insider Aaron Wilson, the Lions have parted ways with assistant defensive line coach Cameron Davis, who had been with the team since 2022.

Terrell Williams, the Lions’ defensive line coach, left the team earlier this summer to become defensive coordinator for the New England Patriots, where he will work alongside Mike Vrabel. The Lions have allegedly signed Kacy Rodgers as their new defensive line coach.

Obviously, this is a significant disturbance to the Lions’ defensive front. And by all accounts, coach Dan Campbell was pleased with the performance of that unit.

“I’ve known Terrell and long, long time and I just think that he’s an absolutely excellent coach, and Cam continues to grow as a coach as well and they work well together,” Campbell stated in December of 2018. “I think they give our guys the best opportunity to have success in a game which is what you want.”

This year, the Lions’ defensive line had a lot of turnover due to injuries. Aidan Hutchinson, Alim McNeill, Marcus Davenport, Kyle Peko, John Cominsky, and Mekhi Wingo have all missed considerable time due to injuries. However, the Lions’ defense hung on for as long as they could. Beyond that, Detroit received encouraging performances from draft picks Levi Onwuzurike and Josh Paschal.

Regardless, it appears the Lions have yet another coaching vacancy to fill. This offseason alone, the following coaches have parted ways with the Lions:

  • OC Ben Johnson
  • DC Aaron Glenn
  • Assistant QB coach J.T. Barrett
  • WR coach Antwaan Randle El
  • DL coach Terrell Williams
  • Assistant DL coach Cameron Davis

… and it appears they may be on the verge of losing pass game coordinator Tanner Engstrand as well.
