In a major win for their 2026 recruiting efforts, the Ohio State Buckeyes have landed a commitment from four-star cornerback Jaelen Waters. The standout defender from Seffner (Fla.) Armwood High School announced his decision on January 21, 2026, solidifying Ohio State’s secondary for the future.
Waters, a 6-foot-2, 180-pound defensive back, is ranked among the top cornerbacks in the nation and is highly regarded for his speed, instincts, and ability to shut down opposing receivers. His commitment marks a significant addition to the Buckeyes’ recruiting class, which is shaping up to be one of the strongest in the nation.
“I felt at home in Columbus,” Waters said in his announcement. “The coaching staff, the facilities, and the program’s legacy of developing defensive backs made this an easy decision for me. I’m excited to compete at the highest level and represent Ohio State.”
Ohio State head coach Ryan Day and defensive coordinator Jim Knowles were instrumental in securing Waters’ pledge. Cornerbacks coach Tim Walton also played a key role in building a strong relationship with the young star throughout his recruitment.
Waters had offers from numerous top programs, including Florida, Georgia, and Alabama. While initially committed to the University of Florida early in his recruitment, Waters reopened his options in late 2025, eventually narrowing his choices before committing to the Buckeyes.
With Waters in the fold, Ohio State’s 2026 recruiting class continues to strengthen its reputation as one of the most well-rounded and dynamic groups in the nation. Fans and analysts alike are eager to see how this talented cornerback will contribute to the program’s legacy in the coming years.
