The New York Giants are now experiencing a hurricane, and when it rains, it pours. On December 6, FOX Sports NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers needed an MRI due to a hip flexor injury that occurred during practice yesterday. “On the Friday of Week 14, he will not practise.” Schultz added that “a final determination on his game status will be made later [on December 6].”
As Schultz noted, the door is still open for Nabers to suit up on Sunday but in all likelihood, when a star player on a 2-10 team suffers a new injury on the Friday of a game week, said player is in serious danger of missing that upcoming matchup. The Giants are currently gearing up for a Week 14 battle with the New Orleans Saints, at home on December 8. If Nabers is unable to go on Sunday, or inactive out of precaution, the Giants will likely give more offensive snaps to wide receivers Darius Slayton and Jalin Hyatt alongside slot specialist Wan’Dale Robinson.
Malik Nabers’ ambitious rookie aspirations have been stifled by persistent injuries and the Giants’ constantly shifting quarterback room. After a week or two of fans watching him play, Nabers’ ambitious rookie objectives and expectations from the start of the 2024 season actually appeared manageable. By no means has Nabers’ inaugural season been a disastrous one. His total output has been hindered by the many quarterback changes, his concussion, and a persistent groin issue.
Nabers has 740 receiving yards and 75 receptions as of Week 14. He has just three touchdowns. If Nabers continues to play at his current rate of 74 yards per game, he should surpass 1,000 receiving yards, which is the most widely used metric for a successful season in the wide receiver world. He might miss more time because of injury, though, and miss a mark that seemed like a near-guarantee in September.
