Detroit Lions tight end Sam LaPorta is set to miss Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars due to a left shoulder injury. LaPorta sustained an AC joint sprain during the third quarter of last Sunday’s 26-23 overtime victory over the Houston Texans and did not practice this week.
In his absence, tight ends Brock Wright and Shane Zylstra are expected to see increased roles. Wright has been part of the first-team offense, and Zylstra has handled blocking duties.
LaPorta has been a key contributor this season, recording 25 catches for 366 yards and three touchdowns in nine games. Last season, he was a Pro Bowl selection as a rookie with 86 receptions for 889 yards and 10 touchdowns.
