Forest set to sign former Premier League star who once earned £505k per week
Nottingham Forest managed to secure their Premier League status by the skin of their teeth last season, and credit must go to Steve Cooper and his side for believing that it was possible right until the bitter end.
The City Ground was bouncing at times last season but the good times in England’s top division looked set to end until wins over Brighton, Southampton and Arsenal in their final few games saw them climb out of relegation trouble.
Retaining their top-flight status allows the club to continue to dream big, and that certainly appears to be what they’re doing with one particular transfer.
According to El Futbolero, the club are looking to do a deal to bring Alexis Sanchez back to the Premier League.
The Chilean was inspired as an Arsenal player, but after he made the move to Man United in a deal which took Henrikh Mkhitaryan to the Gunners, his reported £505,000 per week salary (per The Sun) appeared to weight heavy on his shoulders.
He was never close to being the same player at Old Trafford as he was at the Emirates Stadium, and it was no real surprise when he was moved on.
That he would consider moving back to England and to a club with no European football to speak of hints at how far this former Inter Milan and Barcelona star has fallen, with the greatest respect.
If Forest can pull off a one-year deal, however, Sanchez might just surprise us all.

JUST IN : Nottingham Forest are keen to sign brilliant star player from….
Nottingham Forest are keen to sign Adrien Truffert from Rennes this summer. The Reds are also keen on Monaco defender Ismail Jakobs but it’s not claimed that he’s viewed as an option for a more advanced role.
According to Foot Mercato, Forest are now making serious efforts to land Truffert before the season gets underway. However, it’s believed that the Ligue 1 outfit are keen to keep hold of the player.
Truffert has been with Rennes his whole career. He signed for the club as a youngster and has risen through the ranks where he’s become an important part of the team.
In total, he’s made 113 appearances for the French club. During the 2022/23 campaign, he was a regular in the team until March when an unfortunate injury curtailed his season prematurely.
Truffert didn’t manage to score for Rennes last season but he did claim seven assists. For a player who typically operates as a left-back in a flat-back four, that’s not a bad achievement at all.
It’s unclear at this stage how much Rennes will want for their defender. However, the fact he’s under contract until 2025 and the fact his current club want to keep him won’t make life easy for Forest.
Truffert is now the club’s number one target to fill the left-back void according to the latest reports. Jakobs is likely to still be a target too but the Rennes man looks to have moved top of the list.
Forest keen to sign Truffert from Rennes
Julien Stephan was at Rennes when Truffert was coming through the ranks. He called him ‘quality’ back in 2020 when the defender was bursting onto the scene.
Truffert was born in Belgium but has actually made an appearance for France. That came in September of last year and he looks to have lots of potential.
Forest definitely need a new left-back. Omar Richards hasn’t played for over a year and Harry Toffolo could face a suspension in the near future.
Rumour rating: 8/10 – There is an awful lot to like about this deal. Truffert looks like being a full France international on a regular basis and that’s not to be ignored.
Truffert is only 21 and has lots of potential. He’s a signing that would fit the profile of a Steve Cooper signing and perhaps crucially he’s played lots of football.
This would surely be a signing to delight the Forest fan base if they can get a deal over the line.
