Package containing meth, cellphones seized at Matsqui Institution
Guards at Abbotsford’s Matsqui Institution have stopped a package containing drugs and banned items from entering the prison.
According to officials, a screening on Oct. 1 alerted staff to a package sent to the facility containing crystal meth, tobacco, two cellphones and chargers, four USB keys and a sim card. Officials say the items collectively are valued at $73,000.
The Correctional Service of Canada, which oversees the medium-security prison, uses scanners and drug-detector dogs to search anything that comes and goes from its facilities to stop the smuggling of banned items.
Police are now investigating the seized package.
