The Diamond League Final was supposed to be Sha’Carri Richardson’s comeback. Sha’Carri’s chance to win the gold returned in the 2024 League after it eluded her at the Olympics in Paris in 2024. There were a lot of expectations for the 100-meter race in chilly Brussels after her incredible season. And why not, in this case? Given the turbulent nature of Sha’Carri Richardson’s journey, lofty expectations are reasonable.

As soon as the results rolled in, so did the social media frustrations. One fan went on to say, “Let Sydney McLaughlin Levrone take her place! I am a big Sha’Carri fan but this dropout is lame and disappointing.” Another bluntly went on to say, “She honestly should’ve wrapped her season up after the Olympics. She doesn’t need the money nor attention.” Another tired fan finding the humor amidst it all remarked, “I don’t get her lol.”  “She needs to get mentally stronger,”said another concerned fan.
