This winter, things could get much harder in the American League East. The Boston Red Sox are currently in third place in the American League East, behind the Baltimore Orioles and New York Yankees as the top two clubs. Boston has a chance to improve significantly by 2025, but the division will still face tough competition.
For the next five years or so, Baltimore is positioned to contend for World Series championships, and now, Jon Heyman of the New York Post is bringing up two-time Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell as a potential free agent. “It may be a new ballgame in Baltimore with owner David Rubenstein having a chance to hold on to ace pitcher Corbin Burnes,” Heyman stated. “Snell likes San Francisco but would also be tough in Camden Yards.”
Snell is expected to opt out of his deal with the San Francisco Giants and become a free agent at the end of the 2024 season. This isn’t surprising because he is line or a lucrative multi-year deal now that he has shined once again this season once he got healthy.
According to Spotrac, the ace is expected to sign a contract worth approximately $172 million spread over six years. Boston’s future would be considerably more challenging if the Orioles were able to sign him. At the absolute least, Boston ought should enter the Snell sweepstakes to increase the difficulty for its main competitors.
