On Thursday, Sha’Carri Richardson received some retribution.
In the 100-meter sprint at a competition in Zurich, the American sprint sensation overcame Olympic gold medallist Julien Alfred of Saint Lucia, reversing their 1-2 finish from the previous month in Paris. At the Diamond League competition, Richardson once more fell behind Alfred early on, although she did not stay there this time. At the last end, she overtook Alfred to win in 10.84 seconds as opposed to 10.88 for Alfred.
Richardson, who did win gold in the 4×100 relay at the Summer Games, had hoped for an individual storybook triumph at the Olympics because she missed out on Tokyo in 2021 over a positive marijuana test. But she settled for silver against Alfred.
Richardson had a lot of reasons to enjoy winning her first 100-meter race since the Paris Olympics. According to NBC, Richardson remarked, “This is probably the funnest race I’ve had all season.” “I used that time after the Games to recover, reorganise, and present to you all the Sha’Carri Richardson you are all familiar with.”
